After a dinner of charcoal-grilled meat, dessert is not a detail. At All You Can Steak, inside the Hotel Fantastic Garden in Sesto Fiorentino, the desserts are made by hand and ordered à la carte: they are not part of the All You Can Eat formula, which excludes cover charge, drinks and desserts. Nine options: six plated desserts at € 7.00 and three sorbets at € 4.50.

Plated desserts — € 7.00

Babà alla crema

The babà is a leavened cake and a Neapolitan institution, though tradition has it born elsewhere: in 18th-century Lorraine, at the court of Stanisław Leszczyński, before reaching Naples with the French chefs and never leaving. A soft, open crumb that soaks up syrup like a sponge. Ours is served with cream.

Cheesecake ai frutti di bosco

A biscuit base and fresh cheese cream, closed off by the acidity of the berries. The freshest of the six.

Mousse alla nocciola e cioccolato con biscotto croccante

Hazelnut and chocolate — the pairing that Turin named gianduia — in a light mousse, set on a biscuit that stays crunchy under the spoon.

Semifreddo Innocente, crema al caramello ricoperta di cioccolato

A heart of caramel cream under a chocolate coating: sweet and bitter in the same spoonful. The richest on the list, whatever its name ("innocent") suggests.

Semifreddo Yogurt e Lampone

The yogurt tempers, the raspberry sharpens: the lightest of the semifreddi, and the right one after a Tuscan mixed grill.

Zuccotto lime e cocco

Zuccotto is a Florentine dessert: a dome of semifreddo that tradition traces back to Bernardo Buontalenti, in the Florence of the 1500s. Here the recipe takes a tropical turn, with lime and coconut.

The sorbets — € 4.50

The lightest ending on the list, for when a plated dessert is too much. Three flavours:

  • Sorbetto al limone — the classic that cleans the palate after the embers
  • Sorbetto al caffè — dessert and coffee in one go
  • Sorbetto al Mango — the sweetest of the three
